Getting to know people in your street

Most people in our street know each other. There is a culture of welcoming new people. Could we perhaps put together a blue print to make people in Camden get to know the people they live close to a little better and then share this.

In our street

1. we have an annual street party in a street close by

2. If somoene moves in then we invite them to coffee to share local information

3. We group together to share keys and information about when someone is away

...lots of other things too

Why the contribution is important

It prevents people feeling isolated.
It reduces crime. If a car window is left open we know who it belongs to.

If an alarm goes off one of us usallly has contact details for the owner.

It makes it a nicer place to live.

I think this is a great idea. What do you think makes this happen on your street and what would help other streets learn from what you've done?

Really nice ideas - it happens in a small way here, but would be great to make it comprehensive to a whole street.

This is a great idea! I am not sure to see how the Council can help do that and it would be good to know your ideas if you have some.
Maybe they could create the "Camden community day" where some streets would be closed from traffic and communicate about it so everyone has a day when they know they can do their neighbours party. Or promoting apps/scheme where people could join for "safe areas" (people give their phone number or e-mail address and they can report anything unusual they see - broken window, house unlit for a while, received mail by mistake or for neighbours on holiday...)
