Neighbourhood community shops

Identify (or invite to apply) a convenience stor in each small neighbourhood area, and support them to remain in business by paying them to offer some community services (Library outpost? Advice corner? Council services signposting? Recycling facilities? Water fountain?) and business rates relief to ensure they stay in business. A bit like community shops in villages.

Why the contribution is important

A lot of older people and people with limited mobility rely on these shops for their food and groceries shopping as they can't walk far to get to the bigger supermarkets. It is better for them to go out a short distance every day or two for what they need - a short distance from where they live, as this also gives them regular exercise and seeing people every day (ratehr than replying on people to do big shops for them and deliver to their homes). But small convenience stores find it hard to meet business rates and rental increases, so are increasingly likely to close.
